Knowing whether or not you should lease a car rather than buying it can be as simple as determining how long you are going to keep the car. If you plan to hold onto the car for quite a few years, then it is probably best to purchase the car outright. However, if your taste in cars is varied and you like to change things up quite a bit, leasing could very well be the best option for you.
Is Leasing More Expensive than Buying a Car?
Leasing a car is only more expensive than buying a car if you decide to do both with the same vehicle. If you lease a car and then purchase the car once the lease is over, the cost to you will be excessively higher than if you had simply purchased the car outright from the beginning.
Leasing tends to be an excellent option for those drivers who like to change their vehicles frequently. In most cases, it is cheaper to lease a car and then return it once the lease is up than it is to purchase a car. Plus, you don't get the hassle of trying to sell the car once you decide to try a newer model or make of car.
Leasing is Forever
One of the nicest features about car leasing is that you don't need to participate in it for every vehicle that you drive. If you try car leasing and you don't like it, then you can purchase your car the next time around.
Additionally, if you decide part of the way through your car lease that you simply hate driving the car that you are leasing or your financial situation takes a turn for the worst and you can no longer afford to lease the car, it is possible to get out of the car lease. Basically, you have two options. The first one involves paying an early termination fee to get out of the lease. This can and usually is expensive. Secondly, you can transfer the lease to another individual.
Car Leases Are Offered by Dishonest Dealers
Although leasing a car from someone who is dishonest is always a possibility, this is not the normal scenario. Most car dealers offer legitimate leases for reliable cars to their customers. Since word-of-mouth business is one of the best ways to draw leasing and purchasing traffic to car dealers, dishonesty is not in their best case scenario. Most car leases are honest transactions.
